The American champion Confident of Being 'perfectly positioned' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of claiming a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup competitions.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Racing in the iconic venue for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in early 2019 as a result of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With 47 days remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has won over a career spanning two decades.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup campaign includes a nine more events taking place before the circuit finale in Norway on 21 March 2026.
