Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
