Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."
His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.
He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "true original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
